Pam unhappy over x-ray of her hand
WHEN Pam Milligan, 69, of Casino, needed an X-ray this week she had to travel to Lismore to get it.
“It's bloody ridiculous with a town the size of Casino that you would have to travel to Lismore,” she said.
Mrs Milligan had a sore hand for about a week.
Her doctor suspected she had a fracture.
He told her not to bother with Casino Hospital as the X-ray department would be closed for a couple of days.
Since North Coast Radiology closed its X-ray service in Casino four months ago, due to financial pressures, the hospital has been the only place X-rays could be taken.
Mrs Milligan's hand was so sore she was unable to drive.
Her daughter had to take the afternoon off work to drive her to Lismore.
“There would be lots of people who wouldn't have someone to drive them,” Mrs Milligan said.
The North Coast Area Health Service said no patients requiring an X-ray had been turned away from the service in the last week.
However, there had been delays for some privately referred patients due to a radiographer's monthly commitment in Bonalbo.
The service was currently taking action to address the difficulty some people had experienced getting an X-ray taken in Casino by refitting the department with additional X-ray equipment.
It is expected the refit will be finished by next week.
