Palmer ‘too busy’ to answer questions

FAIRFAX federal MP and Queensland Nickel owner Clive Palmer has still not responded to requests from The Observer to qualify his claim that Boyne Smelters receives $40 million each year from government.

The Observer put the request to Mr Palmer's media advisor Andrew Crook on Thursday afternoon after he had issued a statement in support of his request for a state government guarantee to borrow about $35 million to prop up the nickel company after losing a court case where he was claiming $48 million from his previous Chinese business partner.

In his statement on Thursday, Mr Palmer said he thought it was shocking that the government handed over the $40 million a year to the overseas-owned smelter and yet would not agree to act as guarantor for his Australian-owned company.

A call to Mr Crook's office this morning resulted in a response that Mr Palmer might never answer the query.

"He's a busy man," the woman at Mr Crook's office told The Observer.
