Palmer 'saved Queensland Liberal Party'

A MISSIVE sent from magnate Clive Palmer's public relations team has outlined claims the the billionaire saved the former Queensland Liberal Party from extinction.

In the release, the former vice president of the now defunct party Jim MacAnally said in his time, the party was "riddled with factions".

"Just before the creation of the LNP, the Liberal Party in Queensland was insolvent and it was only saved from extinction by Clive Palmer writing out a cheque for $100,000 so staff could be paid," he said.

Mr MacAnally said he was concerned that ordinary members of the former Liberal and National parties were now being ignored by LNP leaders.

It appears to be the latest broadside from the mining magnate and former life member of the LNP, who recently left the party.

Earlier on Tuesday, Queensland Premier Campbell Newman faced questioning on claims from Mr Palmer that the government was "cooking the books".

He responded, "I assure people that we are open and transparent and we have demonstrated in so many ways the former government never had".

The Queensland LNP branch was sought for comment but did not respond before deadline on Tuesday.
