Byron beauties miss out on crown

BYRON Bay beauties Rique Sharman and Elisha Yarrington have missed out on a new car, a set of togs, a sparkly crown and a year’s supply of shoes after failing to capture the title of Miss Universe Australia.

Despite months of preparation, the pair, both 22, failed to make the pageant’s final three, with judges deciding to send Sydney teen Jesinta Campbell to the US for the final round of the international contest.

Gold Coast-born Ms Campbell, 18, took the ultimate prize after a three-stage selection process.

The pageant opened with the 30 finalists appearing in their swimmers before the top 10 frocked up for the evening gown segment, with the final five doing a question and answer session.

She will cross the Pacific Ocean to represent Australia in the international Miss Universe pageant at Las Vegas on August 23.
