Page candidate welcomes choice
NATIONAL Party candidate for the seat of Page, Kevin Hogan of Clunes, has welcomed Tony Abbott’s election as the Leader of the Opposition.
“I will look forward to working with him in Government with him as the leader,” Mr Hogan said.
Mr Hogan said action was required on climate change, but he shared Mr Abbott’s ‘grave concerns’ about the current emissions trading scheme.
Mr Hogan said he did not doubt the science behind climate change, but the proposed scheme would do very little to reduce carbon emissions.
Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin said Mr Abbott was out of touch.
“His extremist policies will hurt Australian families,” she said.
Ms Saffin said Mr Abbott was aclimate change denier.
“He denies the science of climate change and the need to act,” she said.
Ms Saffin said it was worrying that Mr Abbott was also a strong supporter of WorkChoices.
Former PM Bob Hawke said MrAbbott would be a temporary leader because his views were too far from the mainstream.
