Paddler made it to Paris raising awareness on climate change

LOCAL man Steve Posselt completed his global kayak adventure when he paddled into Paris over the weekend.

His Kayak4Earth tour included paddling or dragging his kayak from Canberra to Sydney, New Orleans to New York, and Bristol to Paris.

The mission was to raise awareness about the dangers of climate change, and the chaotic climate events that have occurred in these places, he said.

He left Lismore on January 13 and wanted to be in Paris in time for the COP21 world climate conference that starts on November 30.

Mr Posselt plans to make a statement by dragging his kayak to the summit.

"If I can paddle halfway around the world then surely we can find the political will to fix global warming," Posselt said.

"We are not trying to save the planet, we are trying to save us from ourselves," he said.

"If only most people knew a fraction of how bad this really is for our children, we would fix it.

"There is no option, we must not give up," he said.

He plans to return to the Northern Rivers in mid-December.
