Owen puts hand up for council

THE president of the Lennox Head Chamber of Commerce, Louise Owen, has announced she will stand for Ballina Shire Council at the September elections.

"I am really excited and I'm looking forward to it," Ms Owen said.

"Being a councillor would be a great opportunity for me to work for my community.

"One of the things that I've always maintained is that we want good representation for the vil- lages of our shire.

"We need good, solid representation and it's been possibly lacking.

"We need people who are driven, motivated and committed to their community.

"I will work hard for B Ward - I am looking forward to having a vote instead of just giving deputations."

Ms Owen - who had a successful heart transplant in late 2009 - said she was keen to bring "fresh ideas and common sense" to the council.

"It's time to get back to basics," she said.

"I want to be very wary of how we develop our shire and the infrastructure that goes with it."

Ms Owen will step down from her position with the chamber at its annual general meeting in August.
