Outdoor show makes for very happy campers
Ms Kernaghan was in Lismore over the weekend to perform at the 4WD, Caravan, Camping and Marine Show at Lismore Showground.
She described the Northern Rivers as "a beautiful place" with a strong community spirit, making it all the more worthwhile for her to support local charities like the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
Although she hasn't been in Lismore for a while, she said coming to perform here brought back fond memories of when she and her family visited with her dad Ray, who did a few shows in the area.
"I remember coming here when my dad had the Waltzing Matilda, the fastest truck in the world, and as a kid you'd just be running around wild," she said.
Ms Kernaghan gave four performances over the weekend at the show.
"I love singing. It just gives you a great feeling that puts a smile on your face, no matter whether you perform for 10 or 1000 people," she said.
Goonellabah girl Maddison Austen, 10, was just one of the many fans that watched her perform.
"I listen to her music all the time and I think she's really good," Maddison said.
Organisers of the event were also happy, with record-breaking crowds of over 15,000 people flooding through the gates.
Event co-ordinator Howard Atkinson started the show 11 years ago and was "pretty chuffed about the whole thing".
"We had around 200 exhibitors, people from everywhere attended and we had a great band of volunteers working. Although it was a lot of hard work, it paid off," he said.
