Our 5 best things to do this week

Hydrofunk Records

GET to the Hotel Great Northern tomorrow night for the launch of the Hydrofunk Records Online Store.

Byron Bay-based label Hydrofunk Records have been releasing albums, 12-inch vinyls and EPs by the likes of Resin Dogs, Def Wish Cast, Downsyde, Good Buddha, Mad Doctor X, Omni Anti, Red Bantoo, Rhibosome, Skam Artist, Ugly Duckling and more.

Hydrofunk have just launched a spanking new online retail store at www.hydrofunk.com.au.

Ensuring their entire back catalogue is available, music fans will be able to buy directly from the source.

To celebrate, Red Bantoo, Omni Anti, MC DNO and the mighty Resin Dogs will perform. Tickets are $17.90 from the venue.

Nimbin underground

NINE of the best underground bands on the Northern Rivers will play a mega gig next Tuesday, January 26, at the Nimbin Town Hall, from 1pm.

The gig, titled Invasion Day, will showcase Nimbin’s Manifest; The Tendons, a hard-rocking Lismore outfit; Tanamera, a heavy metal band from Alstonville; Wine Slutz, a two man AC/DC meets 50 cents rock/rapp combo; The Arcane New Year, Clunes-based alternative rock band; Slug, down and dirty, punk four-piece; Thunder Gods of the Multiverse; P.I.S.S., a cutting edge punk band from Lismore; HyperNove, a hard rock Brisbane band. Free gig.

Huckleberry Swede

HUCKLEBERRY Swede will play the New Tattersalls Hotel in Lismore next Wednesday, January 27.

Take a soul singer like Marvin Gaye, send him to Neil Young’s farm for work experience, get him to jam with Levon Helm and The Band and then take him on a fishing trip with Paul Kelly and you’ll have an idea of the Huckleberry Swedes.

The Swede shows have an intensity that has seen them invited to spend the last year criss-crossing the eastern states to perform at some of our finest music festivals, including Bluesfest, Apollo Bay, Gympie Music Muster, Fuse Festival, Tamworth and the Robe Village Fair, as well as performing their own tours.

Tickets $10 at the door. Doors open 7.30pm.

Buggirl hit Lismore

DON’T miss Buggirl at the New Tattersalls Hotel, Lismore, on Monday, January 25.

The band is celebrating the release of their new EP, Blood, Sweat & Beers.

They have been busy touring the country, turning every town on its head, making friends, fans and rock ‘n’ roll parties everywhere they go.

Blood, Sweat & Beers is a pure piece of Australian pub rock history, featuring five solid rock classics, emerging from beer-soaked pub carpets and from blistering down the sunburnt desert highway. Tickets $15 at the door, doors open 7pm.
