Oscars are in the bin

IT'S the night of nights for anyone in the movie biz - the Oscars.

And as Hollywood's A-list take the historic walk along the red carpet, Mackay movie lovers will be drinking in the glitz and glamour from home.

So who will take out the big three - actor in a leading role, actress in a leading role and best picture?

Birch Carroll and Coyle Mackay Cinemas general manager Lee Staddon has already cast his Oscar picks.

"Best actor for me is George Clooney in The Descendants," he said.

"That movie was an absolute tearjerker."

He even admitted to shedding a "man tear" or two.

Mr Staddon said Rooney Mara, who played Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, gave a standout performance.

However, she is up against some tough competition including Meryl Streep for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

"I personally haven't seen The Iron Lady, but you just know her credentials. You just know how good she is," he said.

Despite this, Mr Staddon is throwing his support behind Rooney Mara for the win.

As for best picture, Mr Staddon's decision was made without hesitation - The Descendants.

"It's hard hitting, it's real," he said.
