Oscar a rising star of bowls
EVANS Head junior Oscar Forrester was named the Rising Star at the third AeroBowls Junior Tournament at Ballina RSL Bowling Club last week.
The 12-year-old, who has only been playing for about 18 months, capped his four-day tournament with a 19-3 win over South Lismore's Kye Faulks in the Under-13 Singles.
The U/13 Singles was introduced this year to cater for the younger bowlers with sisters Ella, nine, and seven-year-old Charli Cameron travelling from Gunnedah to compete. Charli was named the Tournament Rookie.
Forrester teamed up with Inverell East's Will Latter to contest the Under-18 Pairs where they finished third, holding off brothers Jordan and Logan Dunn from Kaiapoi Club, on New Zealand's South Island, in Thursday's third place play-off.
Brisbane duo Sean Gillis, from the Jindalee club, and Zac McLeish (Durak Inala) beat Zack Dorring from Wee Waa and Caleb Cameron (Gunnedah) 19-9 in the U/18 Pairs final.
Gillis, who has been a regular at the tournament, picked up the Umpire's Award and finished runner-up to former Alstonville bowler Indi Conlan in the Under-18 Singles final.
Indi, who is on the cusp of Papua New Guinea selection for the Commonwealth Games, now plays for the Enoggera club in Brisbane.
Indi won the Queensland U/18 Singles and represented his adopted state at the national championships at Sydney's Taren Point over the October long weekend.
