A FORMER SCU student is taking the organics market by storm with a business that makes living a green lifestyle a one-click process.

Richie Rankin, whose family were beef and dairy farmers outside of Casino, has launched www.marqet.com.au in Melbourne and is rolling it out to other Australian states and areas, including the Northern Rivers.

"It's a bit like Amazon," he says. "You can buy organic produce direct right through to organic skincare, organic cotton sheets and more, all on the same site, in one transaction."

Best of all, the food is sourced directly from local farmers, something Mr Rankin sees as benefiting the local community.

"It is a win-win," agrees Greg Paynter, a former chairman of the peak organic body, the Organic Federation of Australia, who's been working to help ensure that Marqet is tailored to the Australian organic community's specific needs.

"Australians get food the way nature intended, farmers get to cut out the middle man and get money directly in their pockets and it helps to address Australia's food security for future generations."

Orders are individually delivered to your doorstep or, where available, you can pick up locally.

Mr Rankin, who works in digital advertising, branding and strategy, started the business with his wife, Rachel, to give their nine-month-old son Oli the healthiest start to life they could and, in turn, give other families greater access to organic food and green products.

Launched in early September, www.marqet.com.au began its service with fresh organic food boxes available in Melbourne. Mr Rankin says they have now lined up suppliers in Queensland and Sydney and are hoping to tie up Northern Rivers organic producers and suppliers soon.

He and his wife hope to raise at least $7500 through the popular crowd-funding platform, Pozible, to add a number of bells and whistles for sellers within the marketplace as well as to start developing Marqet into a dedicated hub for organics to promote health, wellbeing and sustainability.

"With the public's help, we want to connect people with sustainability-driven projects and initiatives in both their local area and around Australia," Mr Rankin said.
