Organ donation set for shake-up with system review

ORGAN and tissue donation will come under closer management in the wake of a review of the system.

Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash said the government would create a governance board for the Organ and Tissue Authority.

Senator Nash also pledged more data reporting on donation rates, including state-by-state and individual hospital breakdowns of donor information.

No new money was allocated to the reforms.

The government hopes to lift the organ donation rate of 16 people in every one million people, to 25 per million people by 2018.
