Opportunities open for youth grants
LOCAL organisations looking for additional funding to assist with local youth projects and events can now apply for a Lismore City Council Youth Activities Fund grant.
Lismore City Council Youth and Community Development Officer, Lizette Twisleton, said the grant funding is offered once a year and represents a wonderful opportunity for important local projects to receive valuable financial assistance.
“This fund has helped some really important local projects and activities get off the ground, or broaden their scope, and as a result, young people in the area have had access to a greater range of opportunities,” Lizette said.
“For example, last year Youth Connections North Coast recieved a Youth Activities Fund grant and as a result they were able to send three young women from Sista’s On About Resilience (SOAR) to Sydney to run a ‘World Cafe’ workshop at the YAPA Youth Conference on racism and bullying in schools. Those girls also had the chance to attend the Deadly Awards at the Opera House which was a great experience.
“The SOAR group also recently won their group category of Young People Supporting Indigenous Youth at the Kids In Community Awards held in Lismore on June 29.
“That’s just one example of the great work being done in our community and how these grants can help. I strongly encourage local organisations and community groups to take a look at the submission guidelines and find out whether they might be eligible.”
The Youth Activities Fund grant submission guidelines are available by visiting www.lismore.nsw.gov.au, and then select ‘Have Your Say’. Council’s deadline for receiving submissions is Friday, August 19.
