Opinion: You help make Australia special

ONE of our most famous Northern Rivers residents, Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth, is the voice and face of the latest campaign to promote Australia to the world.

Framed by beautiful images of young couples enjoying fantastic experiences at some of the most recognisable locations around the country, Hemsworth explains that Australia is not just a place, but a feeling.

I have to agree with this campaign. As a tourist first, and as a new Australian years later, I have learned to love the many shades of this country. But I never felt as at home as I do on the Northern Rivers.

It is our love for creativity, arts and community that makes our region special and beautiful.

Our artists need to be showcased, our songs sang, our dances performed, our scripts staged and our films need to be shot.

But none of that matters if there is no audience, and for them to gather, a venue or stage is needed.

Often those venues are managed by people who work very hard to stay in business and offer jobs to locals.

We salute those who take risks to make this place richer and more beautiful.
