Opinion: No better place to celebrate the New Year

IS there a better place in Australia to celebrate the arrival of a New Year than the Northern Rivers?

Sure, Sydney has some fantastic fireworks, but the crowds are too big and moving around the city is always a hassle.

Every year, the Northern Rivers offers the best array of options for everyone to enjoy New Year's Eve.

In Lismore there is Tropical Fruits, which is 'the' event to be at in NSW in the New Year, thanks to the fantastic volunteer work by hundreds of local members of the LGTBI community.

And then there is The Falls Arts and Music Festival, the music extravaganza that will bring Peking Duk, Weird Al Yankovic and The Wombats to Yelgun tonight at North Byron Parklands.

But the area also offers smaller, community oriented options, such as the Alstonville New Year's celebration, or Soul Street in Byron Bay's CBD.

Please also be mindful of our non-human friends, pets and wildlife, plants an the environment while celebrating.

No matter where you are, or whether you are a local or a visitor, please enjoy this celebrations safely and look out for each other.

Happy 2016!
