Opera House calls to school choir

STUDENTS from Byron Bay Public School have won the opportunity to sing in the country’s most famous concert arena.

Thirty-six children from the school recently applied for a spot to perform at the Festival of Choral Music at the Sydney Opera House in August and were successful.

The Festival of Choral Music will combine 700 primary school voices and showcase individual school performances in its biennial event.

Byron Bay Public School deputy principal Cheryl Booker said the kids had been raising funds for the bus trip to Sydney.

“It’s great that they can go from the country to the city and sing at the Opera House,” she said.

They had to send a video tape of the choir’s performance.
