Online art auction supports Koalas

AN online art auction in support of Friends of the Koala is underway spearheaded by Lismore-based indigenous artist Karla Dickens.

Friends of the Koala president Lorraine Vass said twenty-five artists were putting up their works for auction with half the proceeds of each highest bid going to the wildlife support group.

"This great initiative is the idea of Karla who is passionate about koala survival," said Ms Vass.

Karla's 18m mural, Dreaming of a Koala Haven, commissioned for the new Woolworths in Goonellabah was unveiled by University of Queensland Adjunct Professor, Fiona Foley, onsite last Wednesday.

Prof Foley then launched the Eight Collective's Silent Art Auction for the Koalas later that evening.

"Bidding is entirely online and open until August 14," Ms Vass said.

"If you are a collector, have an interest in emerging artists, or just want to help the koalas, please visit  http://eightcollective.com/ and make a bid.

"Many thanks to Karla and her wonderful friends for bringing the silent art auction to fruition. Thanks also to Jeni and Andrew Binns who donated the wine and to all who bought tickets in the raffle."
