OPINION: One-off Test more like a big yawn fest

I'M GOING to do something I don't tend to do much.

I'm going to agree with Gus Gould.

Watching the Trans-Tasman Test on Friday night I was greeted with the last thing I needed.

A long week had left me feeling pretty cooked and a few Carlton Draught tallies and a thriller of a Test Match sounded like it might just get me fired up again.

Nup.

What a snoozefest.

Zero cohesion. Barely any spark around the field and an extremely conservative Australian side was what greeted me.

I get it was Mal's first gig, the Kiwis are the champs, it was a short preparation yada, yada, yada.

But honestly, what's the point of the fixture?

Twenty-seven thousand Novocastrians would've been feeling pretty let down too I reckon.

I was that bored i flicked over to Richmond v Hawthorn. That was a cracker of a game until about midway through the final quarter.

Two teams going at it with gusto. Much better than two sides going through the motions looking to avoid serious injury and get back to clubland.

Scrap the early season Test and let the guys focus on their club campaigns and State of Origin duties i say. Or modify the rules for the one-off Test to try and spark it into life.

Perhaps a one-play option for a second try for the team who scores if they turn down the conversion might provide some interest.

Maybe big Semi was bored as well and took the 10 out?
