One month after launch, Holden cuts price of its Astra hatch

HOLDEN has re-evaluated the price of its all-new Astra hatch model despite it only being on sale for a little over a month.

The five door hatchback - voted 2016 European Car of the Year and on sale sale here since December 1 last year - has seen its prices dropped across the model range, with customers seeing cuts of between $250 and $1700 off the RRP.

Biggest savings are found on cars with an automatic gearbox, suggesting that the $2200 premium originally applied to self-shifting Astras over their manual counterparts was too high.

"We listened to the feedback from the market and our dealers, and have reacted quickly and decisively," said Peter Keley, Holden's Executive Director, Sales. 

"We've taken one of the best small cars in the world and made it even more compelling and better value for our customers, despite very challenging business conditions. This is what it takes to win in our fiercely competitive market." 

Keeping things fair to customers who have already bought the new Astra at its launch price, Holden said such buyers would be reimbursed the difference. The cheaper prices for new car sales are effective immediately.

The model's entry-level "R" variant with automatic gearbox sees the biggest drop in price. It launched with a price tag of $24,190, but is now down $1700 to $22,490 before on-roads.
