One of a kind: Beef Week impresses locals, visitors alike

DEBBIE Frederickson travelled from Kingaroy to Casino to visit family, not to milk a cow. Which was just as well, as it turned out.

Ms Frederickson was one of thousands of people flocking to the Casino CBD this morning for the Beef Week festival's annual Breakfast with the Butchers, followed by popular events such as the cow milking competition and Cow Pat Lotto.

The festival impressed Ms Frederickson, who said the event was one of a kind.

However, she had little luck in the cow milking competition, despite growing up on a dairy farm.

"The cow was kicking. She was stirred up so the milk wasn't dropping," Ms Frederickson said.

"Right at the ending I managed to relax her but 30 seconds is not long."

Ms Frederickson wasn't the only one having trouble with the milking.

Beef Week Queen Anna Imeson said the cow milking competition managed to struggle on despite two cows being out of action - leaving just two remaining cows among three contestants.

"We had to rely on a baby bottle instead," Ms Imeson said.

Over at Cow Pat Lotto, newcomers to the region John and Wendy Griffiths talked about their love of Beef Week and the support it received from the community.

The Griffiths moved to Bentley from the NSW South Coast two years ago.

"It's absolutely fantastic, the amount of support that local people put into it is incredible," Mr Griffiths said.

The couple tried their luck at cow pat lotto but the closest they came was the right coloured number.

"Maybe I'll have better luck next year," Mr Griffiths said.
