Coraki has win over Alstonville
DESPITE missing four regular A-graders, Coraki found the net 14 minutes from the end for the only goal of the game and a 1-0 win over Alstonville on Saturday in JH Williams Premier League men’s hockey.
Ben Moss and Trent Brown were among those missing, with 14-year-old Alex Powell one of the replacements at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah.
Alstonville were also below full strength and struggled to get out of their half early on.
Coraki had the better of the first half and had a goal disallowed that appeared fine.
Youngster Lachlan Scotcher was outstanding and was well supported by brother Mitchell, Cameron Britt and David Brown.
In the second half, Mitch Harley could have given the red-soilers the lead but he was denied by sensational saves from Coraki goalkeeper Jordan Ryan.
Coraki’s goal came from a David Brown defelction off a push from Adrian McGrath on a well-worked penalty corner.
With four minutes to go Harley was denied again when a goal was disallowed.
Alstonville had the chance to level with a penalty corner after the final whistle and again Harley was denied by the goalkeeper.
Harley, McKendrick and Harvey played well for Alstonville. David Brown, Mitchell Scotcher and Mitch Harley were awarded the player of the match points.
At Murwillumbah, East Lismore fought back from 3-1 down for a 4-3 win over Kingscliff.
Goals from Chris Clark and Matt Rodda put Easts back in it then, with just three seconds left, Marcus Currie scored the winner.
Easts’ best were Currie, Rodda and Daniel Hughes.
Ballina lost to All Stars 7-2, while Capri upset Waratahs 2-1.
