Honda's Civic Tourer Active Life a cyclist's dream

FORGET your Team Sky Jaguars and abundance of Skoda support vehicles at the Tour de France, Honda is upping the bike transporting ante.

This is the Civic Tourer Active Life Concept, set to be unveiled at this weekend's Frankfurt Motor Show, and will certainly be lusted after by our burgeoning biking set.

Honda is showcasing the model to illustrate the Tourer's vast cargo space and its versatility, not least by showing how two fully assembled road bikes can be transported in the rear, complete with moody blue neon lighting.

The Civic Tourer Active Life Concept uses a centre fuel tank layout, helping to offer an impressive 1668-litres of boot space.

Inside is a smart loading rack for those two bikes, along with a retractable arm which can be extended from the rack, making maintenance and repairs easier.

Other maintenance accessories include a built-in integrated air pump, a large light located on the tailgate, an extended shade area and a retractable bench. You can almost feel the Lycra set salivating...

Further accessories include a toolbox, bottle holder, water tank and a front wheel holder which are all integrated within the boot side lining.

RACE READY: The Concept will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Expect pro cycling teams to demand production.

Other clever storage solutions include a special aero shape roof box designed to accommodate cycling accessories such as shoes and helmets. In fact, the whole car looks out-the-box ideal for pro cycling teams and cashed-up enthusiasts alike.

The exterior is equally eye-catching with its custom blue paint and sleek silver roof line, while there are new 18-inch black alloys and a custom design rear bumper for the Concept.

The Concept features Honda's Earth Dreams 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine, which recently returned world record economy figures of 2.8-litres/100km during a 12,498km trip across Europe. Not quite as fuel saving as moving by pedal power only, but not too far off.
