Kodi Butler, of Byron Bay, hopes to travelto Borneo to help save the endangered orang-utan.

KODI Butler is determined to help save Borneo’s orangutans.

This passionate 19-year-old from Byron Bay is hoping to reach the final 10 in a competition which could see her travel to Borneo to work in the jungle for 100 days replanting rainforests, rehabilitating endangered orangutans and raising global awareness about deforestation.

The global competition is run by Project Borneo: 3D, DeforestAction.com and TakingITGlobal. From 231 entries from 26 countries, Ms Butler has been selected in the top 50 and by the end the month she will know whether she’s going to Borneo.

“I am positive that I will be selected to go,” Ms Butler said.

“I am just so excited about this opportunity to do something to help the orangutans and the environment.”

Ms Butler has always been interested in the environment and providing justice not only for humans, but animals as well.

She has worked for Greenpeace and the Heart Foundation.

Ms Butler learned of the competition after seeing a news report on the 7PM Project.

One of the judges is renowned Clunes filmmaker Cathy Henkel.

“I had to submit a video entry explaining why I wanted to be involved in the competition,” Ms Butler said.

“I want to represent the youth of Australia and show the world that we are forward-thinking and passionate about sustainability. I need people to join my online network and support me and this amazing cause.”
