Olympian has many Facebook fans
ONE of the hottest sites on Facebook belongs to the Tweed's lone representative at the 2012 London Olympic Games, Burringbar boy, Matthew Butturini.
"Butters", an integral part of the Australian men's hockey team, was quick to face up to Facebook on his arrival in London as the gold medal favourites put the finishing touches to their Olympic preparations. The 25 year old has kept up a steady flow of information to his large crew of family, friends and admirers and they have replied in kind, posting hundreds of comments in support.
One of the most intriguing submissions was from Mark Crennan who posted "Good luck Butters! Have a great time and remember what happens when you win gold!"
Among the list of comments relayed back to London and Matthew were:
Sharon Dixon: "Good luck Matthew. Your home town is behind you all the way.
Damien Price: "Have fun over there and bring back gold.
Benjamin Laffineur: "Hope to see you winning the final live mate."
Greg Steele: "Awesome! All the best Butters. Enjoy!"
Tanya Fulton: "Good luck. I will be watching all your games and cheering you on from NZ."
More than 100 people have indicated they "like" a photo of a good-luck cake posted on his Facebook page, which Matthew says girlfriend Cassandra Potter whipped up for him.
As well as a multitude of supporters back home watching Matthew and the Kookaburras on television, Matthew will have his own private cheer squad in the grandstand - his parents, Janelle and John, younger brother Andrew, his aunt Marie Higgins and girlfriend, Cassandra Potter.
