ONE lane of the Pacific Highway near Byron Bay is closed due to an oil spill.

NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service crews are on scene at the spill, which occurred at about 7am this morning.

The spill occurred in the northbound lane and was spread over 2km, starting under the overpass at Ewingsdale.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said 40 litres of oil had leaked on to the road from a truck.
