Oh Mooy, ugly scenes after winning goal

FOOTBALL: Socceroo Aaron Mooy's most important assist yet preceded an ugly touchline brawl as Huddersfield Town edged local rivals Leeds United in a vital Championship clash.

Head coaches David Wagner and Garry Monk were both sent to the stands as Huddersfield moved above Leeds in the Championship thanks to a 2-1 win, with Aussie Mooy teeing up the 90th minute winner.

Michael Hefele tapped home Mooy's deflected strike and the dramatic goal was followed by a touchline melee as Wagner clashed with Leeds counterpart Monk after dashing past the hosts' bench to celebrate with his players.

Players from both teams got involved, with referee Simon Hooper booking Leeds captain Liam Bridcutt and defender Pontus Jansson and Huddersfield's Elias Kachunga.

"It is all part of the emotion of the game, but maybe this should happen with the players on the grass," said Wagner.

"For me, celebrating with my players is not disrespectful, but perhaps it is in British football culture. This culture is different in Germany.

"This game is very emotional for me and my staff. I am sorry and I apologise for what happened afterwards."

Discussing the altercation, Monk said: "I hold myself in a certain way and I have humility and respect."

Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute to give Huddersfield a 27th-minute lead before Chris Wood equalised with his 21st goal of the season.

Victory took Huddersfield above their west Yorkshire rivals Leeds to fourth place in the English second tier, six points off the automatic promotion spots.

Brighton and Hove Albion remain second, a point behind leaders Newcastle United, after Tomer Hemed struck in the seventh minute of injury time to earn Chris Hughton's side a 3-3 draw at Brentford.
