Casino primed and ready to spend week celebrating beef

WITH the official start of Beef Week just two days away, all eyes will be on Casino as it hosts the 33rd annual festival.

The launch of the event will be held on Saturday at the Casino RSM Club, with the crowning of the 2015 Beef Week Queen.

But that's just the start of a whole week of activities.

Festival president Stuart George said it was an event that "celebrates who we are as a community, our farmers, our food, our people and our pride".

"I encourage you to grab your family and friends and enjoy another year of Beef Week festivities together," he said.

"The energetic atmosphere that you create is irreplaceable and our appreciation of your continued support is endless."

Following Saturday night's official opening, Beef Week gets underway from 10am on Sunday with Beef Meets Reef at Evans Head.

There will be something for the whole family, with market stalls, amusement rides, cattle displays, a fishing casting competition, circus workshop, jumping castles, camel rides, camp oven cooking and music.

Make sure the kids are dressed up for the Disney movies-themed parade at 11.30am.

Don't miss tomorrow's edition of The Northern Star, which will include your 20-page guide to Casino Beef Week 2015.

Included is a lift-out program for each day of the festival, profiles of the Beef Week Queen candidates, stories about upcoming events and photos from previous Beef Week festivals.

There's an article explaining exactly how the tradition of the Mr Beef competition got started, as well as a gig guide for all your Beef Week entertainment.
