Ocean Shores man found in 'confused state' in Qld

THE case of a missing Ocean Shores man ended happily yesterday when he was found safe and well.

Kevin John Kirk, 69, had been reported missing after he disappeared while on a day trip to the Gold Coast on Monday.

He was found by a member of the public yesterday about midday, lying down on grassland near Australia Fair.

Mr Kirk appeared to be in a confused state and was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment.

Gold Coast police had been conducting patrols in an effort to locate Mr Kirk. They also appealed for help in finding Mr Kirk and yesterday praised the public for their assistance.

Mr Kirk had been on a day trip with a friend, who had an appointment at Biggera Waters.

He took his friend's dog for a walk to the beach while the friend attended his appointment, and they had planned to meet up later, but Mr Kirk never showed.

Police were contacted later that afternoon.

The dog was found about 12.30am yesterday tied up outside the Spar Convenience Store, on the corner of Markeri Street and the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach, which is about 14km south of Biggera Waters.

Police believe they may have had another possible sighting of Mr Kirk about 4.45am yesterday.

It is believed he was spotted at a bus stop on the Gold Coast Highway outside the Sizzler Restaurant at Mermaid Beach.

Mr Kirk's friends and family were concerned for his welfare after he was reported missing.

Gold Coast police had alerted local bus services, taxi companies and lifesavers in an attempt to locate the missing man, putting out a full description and detailing the clothes he was last seen wearing.
