Numbers remain steady in latest Casino cattle sale
NUMBERS remained steady for a yarding of 1540 head at Wednesday's sale.
About 1100 young cattle were sold consisting mainly of medium- weight vealers, some good heavy vealers and a fair number of lightweights. Quality of the young cattle improved with increased numbers of well-finished milk veal offered, along with fewer plain cattle.
The vealer market saw little change with the best of the light veal selling to a top of 260c/kg, while medium weights ranged from 253-283c/kg, averaging 266c/kg. Heavy butcher vealers ranged from 284-290c/kg.
Restocker vealer steers were 7-10c/kg dearer, selling to 360c/kg for well-bred steers, while restocker heifers topped at 284c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle consisted of a good penning of bullocks and steers, and cows were also in good numbers.
Bullocks and steers were up 6-8c/kg, selling to 273c/kg, while heifers topped at 260c/kg.
The cow market improved by 6-9c/kg, with medium weights averaging 216c/kg and heavy cows selling to 238c/kg.
