NPWS officer hurt at illegal party

AN ILLEGAL danceparty at Tyagarah Nature Reserve created havoc for residents, police and the National Parks and Wild-life Service on the weekend.

Residents of Grays Lane reported that trucks began arriving on Saturday afternoon, followed by carloads of young people driving erratically and playing loud music. Police were called several times during the night and the following morning.

A spokesman for the NPWS said an officer was treated at hospital after being injured by a bottle allegedly thrown by a partygoer.

“It is particularly concerning that staff can be injured in this way when they’re just doing their job,” he said.

Significant amounts of rubbish were left throughout the reserve and there was damage to vegetation from unauthorised fires.

Anyone with information should contact the NPWS on 6620 9300.
