Nowra man gets jail time for assaulting two girls in Ballina

A NOWRA man, who indecently assaulted two girls at the Ballina Central shopping centre in November 2012, has been jailed for 15 months.

On November 13, Jason Troy Lloyd, 40, of Nowra, approached a six-year-old girl in the toy department of Big W and said "hey, come over here."

Lismore Local Court yesterday heard when the girl approached Lloyd he touched her bottom on the outside of her shorts before moving behind her and putting his hand down the front of her shorts and inside her underpants.

The following day Lloyd indecently assaulted a 13-year-old girl in the DVD section of a nearby department store.

Police arrested Lloyd on November 15, and he was granted conditional bail at Ballina Local Court the next day.

The court heard Lloyd, who brought his packed bags to court, after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting the six-year-old, needed to undergo "extensive intervention" to ensure he did not re-offend.

At sentencing, Magistrate Jeff Linden said parents were entitled to be able to take their children to shopping centres without the threat of this sort of thing happening. He sentenced Lloyd to 15 months jail with a non parole period of nine months.
