CLASSICAL music lovers are celebrating the return of the Bangalow Music Festival as it rolls into town this weekend.

The 12th annual festival kicked off last night with a prelude evening where classical performers gave music lovers a taste of what the weekend holds.

If you missed last night's preview, there are nine more performances being held today, tomorrow and Sunday at Bangalow's A&I Hall.

The concerts will feature a range of classical musicians from soloists to duets to small ensembles.

Bangalow Music Festival logistics co-ordinator, Margaret Curtis said attending the festival is a great way to become immersed in classical music.

"If you've never been before it's a great introduction to the genre," Ms Curtis said.

The Bangalow Music Festival began in 2002 after chamber ensemble, the Southern Cross Soloists launched it in response to the unique acoustics provided by the 102-year-old A&I Hall.

This year's festival will include tenor Alexander Lewis, Chinese violinist Qian Zhou and stand-out act pianist, Jayson Gilham.
