Not so perfect wedding for this Gladstone bride
Rick and I have been together since February 2012.
Engaged since February 2014 and married 13 September 2015. We have three kids.
We have always wanted to have a small wedding. We didn't tell anyone we were going to do it when we did.
My photographer Kellie, was having her son's first birthday and naming day that day and her aunty is a celebrant.
We joked in saying we should do it the same day. Sounded good to us.
Leading up to the day, I made everything for the wedding.
Scored bargains where i could and used Pintrest for inspiration.
We both like simple. We both like the beach. It was perfect. My dress cost me $70 from a boutique on Kirkwood. Earrings cost me $5 from Lovisa, hair jewel from Lovisa for $10, bracelet $1.50 spotlight.
Didn't need shoes. Thank god because I hate heels.
I always knew I was going to do my own hair and make up.
Pintrest again helped me with my hair choices. Which was good as I love playing around with hair.
Thursday before wedding: Got my nails and eyelashes done.
My nails were not what I was after sadly, so I went and got them redone on the Saturday in the mall.
They were amazing! So happy finally. Next was my lashes to fix.
No one could fit me in. Panic started to set in.
Freaking out!!! Night before my wedding, my brother Shane, Rick and Shane's girlfriend Renee were trying to fix my eyelashes.
Yeah no, don't try and be a beautician whilst having drinks!!
The boys cut my eyelashes with my fabric scissors. Turned out not so good.
Wake up Sunday morning. DAY OF WEDDING, had to wait till 10am for a shop to open so I could get some glue remover and get some fakes.
We get back home with 3hrs till deadline -- 45mins we get them off!!!
Right, off to get the flowers and go and get ready. Went to my friends place to get ready as organised.
She lives a two minute walk from our ceremony.
Perfect. Get there. 11am. Wedding starts at 1pm.
No one is answering the door. Im stressing a bit as i didnt have her mobile and her husband was meant to be home to let us in as she was studying. Called around, Facebooked her. Nothing. Omg!!! 11:30.
I make the call to just get ready up at the pub. Get to the pub, frantically looking for a power point after locking my bridesmaid Renee and I in the disabled toilet.
Nope. No power point. Okie dokie. No bench, no chairs, no power point. We just looked at each ither and giggled and said "oh well, at least they are playing karaoke style music". Let's do it. We frantically do our make up.
I do my hair. Renee had no idea how she was going to do her hair. I ended up doing it. We finished with 15 mins to spare (we are drenched in sweat).
We scoop all out stuff in bags and race up to the bar and glammed up and scull a vodka cruiser to calm the nerves. Ok girl, lets do this Renee says.
And off we went. We get to canoe point. My brother had to meet us in the car park as i had all the table and decor. He runs down and sets up. Comes back and gets us. We finally get there!
I saw my man waiting for me. I was just so happy to be marrying my best friend that all the panic and mayhem went out the door. We finished and go to get photos from my friend Kellie. Kaptured by Kellie Shepherd. Amazing.
Rick wasn't so keen. He loves kite surfing. Sunday was his only day off. Guess what it was doing?! Blowing in perfect winds!!!
We get photos done with rick looking at all the white caps in the ocean with him saying some lovely words under his breath.
My poor man. We head home. Collect the children, more alcohol, order pizzas and get into our trackies. Sat on the floor and had our "reception" with Shane and Renee, kids and us. We loved it.
No fiddling around. We could do what we wanted. Be a family. We crashed at 9pm and that was it.
Rick had to go back to work early monday morning to rocky for the week. We are still wanting to do our honeymoon.
We just have to wait for time and money. We would love to go to Fiji.
