Norths out to hit back

NORTHS will be on the defensive when they taken on Marist Brothers on Thew Field at Albert Park in Lismore today in Rex Airlines Far North Coast Major League baseball.

Norths have dropped their past two games after a sensational start to the season.

Despite the losses the club still leads the competition but will be keen to get back on track with a win over Brothers this afternoon.

Brothers went within a whisper of upsetting Workers last Saturday, controlling the game until the final innings.

In recent weeks the young Brethren have been focused by old heads Matt Buckley, David Parsons and Jeff Mackney – as well as the determination of experienced coach Mick Youngberry.

Gone are the major mistakes in the field, replaced by a focus that has put the side firmly in the premiership race.

On Baxter Field, Redbirds and Workers will tough it out.

Unlike the raw baseball of the other game, Workers and Redbirds bring the maturity of many years of baseball experience.

Workers have often beaten sides into submission with solid hitting and strong pitching. The hitting has been quiet of late, while the pitching remains a work in progress this season.

Redbirds play a fast-paced game and keep the pressure on with quality pitching.

Both sides require a win to close in on Norths on the competition ladder.
