BOOK launches, summer craft exhibitions and a Festival of Ability - there's something for everyone on the Northern Rivers.

Here's a taste of some of the events coming soon to the Northern Rivers:

Festival of Ability

The Festival of Ability, Far North Coast, is being held at the Alstonville Showground and Entertainment and Leisure Centre on December 3, from 9am to 3pm.

The event celebrates the International Day of People with Disability. It gives the opportunity to showcase the achievements and demonstrate the abilities of people with a disability.

Casino Beef Week Festival

The new 2010 Beef Week Board has finalised the 2010 Country Energy-Casino Beef Week Festival dates and festival theme.

The official festival opening night will be held on Saturday, May 22, and Beef Week will end on June 1.

The theme will be Wild, Wild, West. For more information call the Beef Week office on 6662 8181.

Book launch

Lismore City Library is hosting a book launch for Philip McLaren, author of Murder in Utopia, on Wednesday, December 9, at 1.15pm.

Philip is an indigenous Australian, born in Redfern, NSW. Both his parents are Kamilaroi people from Coonabarabran, in the foothills of the Warrumbungle Mountains in NSW.

Summer Art and Craft Exhibition

Ballina Arts and Craft (BACCI) will hold a Summer Art and Craft Exhibition at the Ballina RSL Club on November 27, from 6.30pm. The cost for opening night is $10, which includes wine and refreshments.

The exhibition will continue over the weekend, with free entry on both days. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm.

Community in the Kitchen

Yummy catering is a social enterprise staffed by young people who have completed a Certificate II in Hospitality while enrolled in the YWCA NSW program, Community in the Kitchen.

Dance evenings

The Goolmangar School of Arts Community Hall Committee is holding 50/50 dance and social evenings this Saturday and on Saturday, December 19, at the Goolmangar Hall on Nimbin Road.

Music to be provided by CHECK 2, Col, Lyn, and Doug. A supper will be provided by the Goolmangar ladies, with lots of sponges and tarts. Entry is $10 at door, with proceeds to the Goolmangar Hall Building Fund, ph 6689 9222 or 6629 3219.
