North Koreans ready for a ‘do or die battle with the US’
North Korea has said it is ready for an apocalyptic "do or die" battle with the US, as Donald Trump claimed he is "totally prepared" for a "devastating" attack.
The Sun reports the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea - the only legal trade union federation in Kim Jong-un's hermit kingdom - spoke out in support of the dictator.
"The workers of North Korea are full of enthusiasm to supply more strategic weapons and ultra-modern war hardware ... for the final showdown with the US," the body said in a statement.
According to the Daily Star, the announcement urged the people of North Korea "to settle accounts with the US imperialists."
The federation reportedly added: "We, the working class, will turn out in the do-or-die battle with the US in hearty response to the call of the respected Supreme Leader."
The shocking statement came as President Trump warned any US military strike would be "devastating" for Pyongyang.
Speaking about the possibility of a military strike, President Trump told a White House press conference: "We are totally prepared for the second option, not a preferred option.
"But if we take that option it will be devastating, I can tell you that - devastating for North Korea. That's called the military option. If we have to take it, we will."
The escalating war of words between the leaders has fuelled increasing fears of a war between their countries.
The US commander-in-chief branded nuclear weapon-seeking Kim "rocket man", while Kim responded by labelling the US leader a "dotard".
Outside the UN this week, North Korea's foreign minister said the US had "declared war" on North Korea.
He went on to say his nation reserved the right to shoot down American bombers - even outside of North Korean airspace.
It comes as Lee Cheol-noo, the chief of the National Assembly's intelligence committee, said: "North Korea relocated its warplanes and strengthened defences along the east coast."
