North Coast bats lead the way at the Bradman Cup
BIG scores were the order of the day when North Coast beat Central North in the second round of the under-16 Bradman Cup cricket competition at Newcastle yesterday.
Opening batsman Ben Pierce top-scored with 71 runs from opening bat while Jacob Cox scored 53 in the middle order.
North Coast finished its 50 overs at 7-286 with Jacob Ellis unbeaten on 46 while wicket keeper-batsman Jackson Korn scored 38.
However, Central North was up for the fight with top-order batsman William Fort scoring 69 before Ocean Shores bowler Oliver Cronin picked up the vital wicket.
Lachlan Barton (37) kept the scoreboard ticking over in the middle order and Central North looked on target at 4-169 before a collapse late in the innings.
North Coast finished with a flurry of wickets to bowl the opposition all out for 217 with five overs to spare.
Luke Anderson was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3-40 from his 10 overs.
Earlier in the week, North Coast came up against tough opposition, losing its opening game against Western zone on Monday.
Nicholas Clarke fared the best of the bowlers, taking 4-71, while Luka Grace finished with three.
Grace also top-scored with the bat scoring 29 not out after Korn chipped in with 28.
North Coast continues its campaign today when it takes on Riverina at Learmonth Park.
The draw will be done tonight with finals day tomorrow.
