No-cost health services available in some communities

COMMUNITY members of Evans Head, Woodburn and Coraki are reminded they can now access a number of no-cost health services.

Late last year, North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) contracted the services of a psychologist, a speech therapist and an occupational therapist for the Evans Head and Coraki communities.

The psychologist is now available as part of NCPHN's Healthy Minds Program in Evans Head.

Healthy Minds provides free mental health services to people who would not otherwise be able to access psychological treatment.

To be eligible, the person must have a government health care card or be suffering financial hardship.

To make an appointment with Healthy Minds, phone 1300 137 237.

Contracted speech pathology services for children are available in the Coraki and Evans Head areas four days a week.

Similarly, occupational therapy services have been established two days a week.

Contact the Spot4You and Spot4 Kids therapists on 1300 776 849 to make an appointment.

NCPHN's service delivery general manager, Chris Clark, said these new allied health contracts with private health care providers were part of an agreement reached between the Commonwealth Government and Primary Health Networks.

"The approach is designed to both increase access to services for the community and potentially create sustainable services for the future," Mr Clark said.
