Mullum fest patron Harry James Angus to honour Nina Simone

NINA Simone will be the special guest, in spirit and music, at this year's Mullum Music Festival.

Festival patron Harry James Angus announced the special gig and a number of other events as part of this year's line-up.

"It's really rare to find a festival where you have a 50/50 split of male and female artists.

"In the last two years Mullum has had great representation of female artists; this year the voices are to die for, and we try to get as many of the women that are playing in the festival to be part of it," he said.

Another new event announced by Harry is a piano bar, featuring Ollie McGill.

Harry said the piano bar would be "hidden in the Village Vanguard building" and the idea was that artists and punters would be able to find this space and enjoy an impromptu piano soiree with little scripting and a chilled bohemian attitude.

A couple of events from last year will be held again: the jazz party at the end of every evening, and the Patsy Clyne Show, with singer Loretta Miller.

The festival will be held at different venues across Mullumbimby from November 19-22.
