Nimbin pub slammed in travel book
A NEW international travel book that lists the Nimbin pub as serving the world’s worst pizza is using an old review from a Lonely Planet travel guide.
Lonely Planet’s Asia-Pacific media and communications manager Adam Bennett confirmed the review was from the 2009 Titanic Awards – which was borrowed from an earlier Lonely Planet review by the company’s founder, Tony Wheeler.
As reported in yesterday’s Northern Star, the just-published book containing the offending review is a collection of the Titanic Awards’ worst travel reviews. The current bistro doesn’t do pizzas.
“It is old information insofar as it predates the current situation at the Nimbin pub, but if Tony thinks that’s the worst pizza he’s had, then that’s the worst pizza he’s had,” Mr Bennett said.
“The current edition of Lonely Planet’s Australia Guide, published in November 2009, has many positive things to say about Nimbin, including the pub.”
The current entry reads: “Nimbin’s local boozer has basic pub rooms with shared bathrooms. Downstairs there’s hearty pub nosh for lunch and dinner and cold schooners on a fantastic rear deck.”
