Newman admits apprehension over G20 summit

HE has been its biggest champion, but days out from the event, Premier Campbell Newman has admitted he is "apprehensive" about the G20.

Speaking to 612 ABC Brisbane, Mr Newman expressed some nervousness about the $400 million event, which will bring 7000 delegates and members of the world media to the city for three days.

But he said he believed authorities had "done everything we should have done".

"To have the leaders of these world economies representing about two thirds of the world's population, that is putting the spotlight on Queensland like never before," Mr Newman said.

"With that comes a big responsibility to get the event run smoothly and efficiently and to have a safe secure and I hope very much a friendly event. It is a big deal. It's quite an undertaking to put on.''
