New season, new look for SCU

SOUTHERN Cross University (SCU) Rugby Club has unveiled their new playing strip for the 2010 season.

The kit will make its debut in today’s local derby match with Lismore City at Maurie Ryan Oval.

SCU spokesman Jack Quigley said today’s match was the ideal time to unveil the new playing strip.

“We wanted to launch the kit on a big stage,” he said.

“It’s our first home game of the 2010 season and we’re playing our biggest rivals, Lismore City, so it will be a big day.

“Here in Lismore we have the only true derby match in Far North Coast rugby.

“Players and supporters of both these clubs share the same streets, work together and have to see each other during the week, so there is that extra bit of incentive to get bragging rights over your closest neighbour.”

The SCU Gold Rats will be looking to bounce back from a first round defeat at the hands of Ballina, and will be without the services of prop Michael Clark and centre Brett Gaukroger, who both sustained rib injuries in the loss to Ballina.

On the plus side, they will be hoping to have rep fullback Will Latham back from knee ligament damage.

City will be looking to make it consecutive victories to start the season, after defeating Grafton in round one.
