New Ramsay Street backyards to make a splash on TV in May
RAMSAY Street's iconic homes have received a $1 million expansion.
Three new outdoor sets, which replicate the backyards of house numbers 22, 26 and 32, have been custom built on the show's Forest Hill studios outside of Melbourne.
Filming has already begun in the flash backyards, which include a pool and a hot tub, with the scenes to appear on air in May (June in the UK).
"While part of the project was tapping more into the Aussie lifestyle, it's also about ensuring Neighbours continues to evolve and providing more colour and depth to our stories," said FremantleMedia CEO Asia Pacific Ian Hogg.
Not surprisingly, Paul Robinson has the most modern backyard complete with an indoor/outdoor dining area.
But the newest additions to Ramsay Street, the Turner family, will be having the most fun with a pool, spa and basketball hoop in their backyard, while the white-brick-clad shared house has a garden and hot tub.
The show celebrates its 28th birthday on Monday (March 18) and is currently screened in more than 65 countries, with Denmark being the most recent addition.
Long-time star Ryan Moloney, who plays Toadie Rebecchi, was on the most recent series of Celebrity Big Brother in the UK, where the soap still boasts an average of 2.5 million viewers in the UK every day.
"It was a crazy experience, but I am thankful for having it," he said.
"They have a bit of fun, sometimes at your expense."
Back on the set of the soap he has starred in since1994, Moloney said he was impressed with the new backyards.
"They look fantastic," he said.
"I walk into them and go 'I wish this was my backyard'. Hopefully we'll have an awesome end of year party in them."
Neighbours is the fastest made TV show in the world, with the cast and crew pumping out an incredible six episodes every week.
Star Sachin Joab believes it's a great training ground for Aussie actors.
The Melbourne native, who has played Ajay Kapoor for more than 18 months, wraps up his contract in May and is heading over to LA in the hopes of landing a role on a US show.
Joining Ramsay Street in late May is the Willis family.
Tricky Business star Kip Gamblin plays Brad, while Rebekah Elmaloglous plays his wife Terese and Ariel Kaplan and Harley Bonner play their children Imogen and Joshua.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 6.30pm on ELEVEN.
