New principal to start in new year
AFTER five years as Trinity Catholic College principal, Brother Peter Carroll will step aside next year for a man from the south.
Br Carroll will be succeeded by Brother John Hilet who is principal of Red Bend College in Forbes, west of Orange.
Br Hilet said he was excited about moving to the Northern Rivers.
"I grew up on the coast so I'm looking forward to being close to the coast again," he said.
"Like any new beginning, there's a sense of excitement about what's to come, but also sadness about having to leave."
Br Hilet has been the longest serving principal at Red Bend College but will start from scratch when he begins at Trinity next year.
"Initially, it will be a process of listening to people and getting a picture of what the place is like," he said.
"Like any Marist school, they're good schools, places where the kids want to go and learn and the kids gain opportunities for their future."
Before the end of the year, he will visit Lismore several more times to familiarise himself with the school and staff members.
Br Hilet had previously met with the school's board and said he was impressed by interest shown from its members towards him.
Outgoing principal Br Peter Carroll will take on a role with Marist Brothers' Province of Australia next year.
