New name to lure new members

TOURISM Ballina has changed its name.

At the organisation’s recent annual general meeting, a vote was taken to change the name to Ballina Tourism and Hospitality.

President Paul Ferguson said the decision to make the change was unanimous.

“The original concept was to align our name with that of Tourism NSW and Tourism Australia,” he said.

“Now what is important is to lead with your destination.

“Also, we need to establish a wider appeal to other tourism businesses, such as the restaurant and catering industry, by adding the word ‘hospitality’.

“We have seen our membership numbers increase by 32 per cent, which is tremendously encouraging.

“This is a huge compliment to the committee that the actions and initiatives they have implemented over the year have the industry’s support.”

This year’s committee members are Paul Ferguson (Ballina Colonial Motel), Dave Heggie (Digital and Virtual Environments), Gary Crane (Northern Rivers Trike and Bike Tours), Rik Dillon (Amaze ‘n’ Place), Peter Mehan (Wollongbar TAFE) and Jason Mumford (The Point Ballina).

Positions will be decided at the organisation’s next meeting later this month.
