New Lismore roundabout: Is it a waste of money?
READERS concerned about a new roundabout in Lismore have described the project as a waste of money, the wrong technique to ease traffic flow, and the wrong focus for new development.
But others expressed relief, saying the intersection was accident-prone.
Craig Vidler wrote: "Why don't they look at traffic lights at the Ballina Rd and Whyrallah Rd intersection? Traffic lights manage traffic flow better on high volumes."
Another user, Charlene Steyn, is concerned about how many roundabouts Lismore has already.
"Don't we have enough roundabouts? But hey, add another one soon and this will be Lismore - roundabout city."
Adam Briggs wrote: "Stop with roundabouts, Lismore City Council."
Luke Phillips commented: "First a completely useless roundabout on Fischer and Pleasant and now here."
Do you think a roundabout is needed at this particular intersection?
This poll ended on 07 April 2016.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
Some users said they believed it would ease safety concerns.
"What can I say, a long time awaited. This is just what this intersection needs; let's hope less accidents now," Deborah Matten wrote.
Sabrina Foster wrote: "Thank goodness. In the six months I've lived near this intersection I've seen more accidents than any other place I've lived."
Construction will begin on the roundabout at the intersection of Magellan and Diadem streets in early April.
Surrounding roads will be closed off at different stages of the 10-week project.
