New lighting for Tenterfield provides electricity cuts

IN 2015 Tenterfield became one of seven councils in regional NSW to support a major rollout of new LED technology for street lighting through Essential Energy.

Council took up the offer to replace street lights with new LED technology which has resulted in a saving of 30% in energy consumption and costs.

Street lighting is currently a big budget item for council with a cost in teh 2014/2015 financial year of $139,237.

"The initial report shows a reduction of 30% in electricity fees which is not only a great result for our community but highlights that Tenterfield Shire Council is at the forefront of implementing new technology," Mayor Peter Petty said.

The new LED lights have been isntalled in residential areas in Tenterfield and Jennings but do not include lighting on the New England and Bruxner Highways.
