New help on hand for local women suffering abuse
STARTING from January 13, women can visit a new clinical psychologist based in Lismore as part of the North Coast Primary Health Network's Healthy Minds program.
Psychologist Chloe Makin will be available to see clients free of charge at the Women Up North Housing office.
Women Up North is a housing service for women and their children who have experienced domestic or family violence or abuse.
General manager Jillian Knight-Smith said she was delighted to see that a work space could be provided for Ms Makin.
"Women Up North is a safe place where women can feel supported," she said.
"Through Healthy Minds we can provide mental health services for women in a place where they will feel comfortable."
Women Up North supports women in the community to be safe, have healthy relationships and maintain access to private and social housing. Ms Knight-Smith said the women who visit Ms Makin do not need to be Women Up North clients.
Those who wish to use this counselling service can be referred through their GP.

Ms Makin attained a Masters of Clinical Psychology from Bond University.
She has experience working with women and families with trauma, depression and anxiety.
