Ex-Lismore GM to head Byron council
BYRON Shire will welcome a new general manager in the New Year with the appointment of Ken Gainger, a previous general manager at Lismore City Council from 1998 to 2002.
Mr Gainger comes to Byron Shire Council with over 30 years experience in local government in NSW and Victoria.
Mayor Simon Richardson said Mr Gainger's extensive background in local government, strategic management and community engagement were key skills that would help guide the Byron Shire over the coming years.
Mr Gainger's most recent appointment was general manager at Marrickville Council from 2009 to 2012 where he led and completed their Community Strategic Plan and oversaw a number of key development projects.
From 2005 to 2009, Mr Gainger was general manager at Ashfield Council where he developed their first collaborative strategic plan and long term financial plan along with a review of financial and organisational performance. Principal of Gainger Management Services from 2002 to 2005 he provided consultancy services to Local Government.
Mr Gainger's early background is in Environmental Health and Surveying.
It is anticipated that Mr Gainger will commence his new role as general manager at Byron Shire Council at the end of January 2013.
